Serving over 350 busses a day, the Chicago-Lake Transit Center is one of the most important transit hubs in south Minneapolis. The transit center consists of two hubs, one 981 sf station on the north side of Lake Street and one 1,078 sf station on the south side. Each hub accomodates travel in one direction. The south building is larger to accomodate a larger mechanical room and a transit office.
The Chicago-Lake Transit Center was featured in an article entitled "Fifties Influence: Old Sears Site Inspires Transit Center" which appeared in the June 2006 issue of Metal Architecture.
