Owner: NRG, Inc.
Completion: 1997
Value: $500K - $1M
Description:
In Spring of 1996 Shaw-Lundquist undertook the restoration and adaptive
reuse of the Foster House. Originally a hotel and carriage works, this
three-story brick and beam building was built in 1882. Shaw-Lundquist
collaborated with Roger Johnson-Richard Smith Architects and The
Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM) to maintain the building's
architectural and historical integrity. Shaw-Lundquist also constructed
2,000 square feet of office space to complement the character of the
neighborhood. The restoration project received an award from PAM
(Preservation Alliance Minnesota) in November 1997. Today the building
is owned by the Minneapolis Energy Center, who maintains on the
building's first two floors a secondary cooling facility and back-up power generator for the neighboring Federal Reserve Bank.
