The Metropolitan Council moved their Headquarters from 230 East 5th Street to 390 North Robert Street. 390 North Robert Street is an existing circa 1967 five-story building. The building is a steel column, steel beam with concrete over steel decking frame. The exterior is precast concrete. The electrical and mechanical, and plumbing systems were totally replaced. The building was remodeled with new foam insulation at the exterior walls under steel studs and gypsum furring, new steel stud and gypsum partitions, new doors, new acoustic tile ceilings, new carpet and new ceramic tile bathrooms and new bathroom fixtures. A new entry of granite and glass with terrazzo floors was installed on the south side of the building. On the first floor, two steel columns were removed and are supported on either side by two steel beams creating a 50 foot by 50 foot new council chamber with curved glass ceiling mounted lights, terrazzo floors and new wood paneled walls. The entire renovation encompassed 137,000 sf.
