When Fred and Lyle founded Shaw-Lundquist Associates, Inc. in July 1974, they each brought with them over twenty years experience in construction.
Fred had started with Orville Madsen as a student, estimating projects. In 1954, Fred was named vice-president of the firm and manager of the Minneapolis office. Over the next twenty years he helped build the company into one of the largest general contractors in the upper Midwest.
Lyle joined OEM as a carpenter. Through hard work and leadership, Lyle was named superintendent in 1951. As he continued to gain greater experience he was soon responsible for the site operations of the largest projects for the Minneapolis office.
Fred and Lyle earned each other’s respect and gained the experience and knowledge to ensure the success of Shaw-Lundquist Associates Inc., which became the area’s largest minority-owned contracting firm.
In 1983, Lyle Lundquist retired and Fred continued to develop an organization that clients could depend on.
Shaw-Lundquist has always been a family oriented organization, so it was a natural transition for Fred’s sons to join the company. Hoyt Hsiao, his 2nd oldest son, starting as a Project Manager in 1988 and moving up through the ranks to Vice President, and in 2009 was named President & CEO.
Today, Shaw-Lundquist is one of the largest Asian American-owned Contractor in the nation. With operations in the Midwest and Southwest, we continue to deliver construction services to our clients with the same passion and ethics that our founders had from the start: “Be honest, fair, reliable, and treat people right.”
