Saint Paul, Minnesota, Thursday, January 25, 2007 -- The Twin Cities International Citizen Awards Host and Steering Committee has selected Fred Shaw as the 2007 International Immigrant Achievement Award Recipient.
Founded in 1992, the Twin Cities International Citizen Awards recognize individuals and corporations in our community who have made inspiring contributions to international understanding, cooperation and mutual respect. It is given to those that have made clear and exemplary contributions to local and global communities; demonstrate a strong commitment to international understanding and cooperation; and live out mutuality and respect in relation with other countries and peoples.
The purpose of the Awards is to recognize the richness of the Twin Cities’ international contribution, concern and commitment in a variety of arenas, including business and trade, research, human rights, agriculture, technology, arts, medicine, education, journalism, hospitality and humanitarian relief as represented through the efforts of the business community. The Awards also educate the public about the connections which exist between our local community and the world.
The Awards event will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Minneapolis Club where Mr. Shaw will be honored alongside Walter & Joan Mondale (International Citizens Award) and Carlson Companies (Corporate International Award). Although the Awards are presented at an annual gala event, they are more than a one-day celebration. The Awards serve as a catalyst for communicating among Twin Cities’ international organizations and businesses; provide an opportunity to showcase the international involvement of the Twin Cities area; inspire Twin Citians to enter into international opportunities available in our community; and sustains the work of the International Leadership Institute, a 501c(3) organization which provides civic education programs and technical assistance to build bridges toward sustainable outcomes for people, businesses and government.
