Lake Superior College Health & Science Center

Project Description

The LEED Silver certified Health & Science Center is settled in the slopping hillside above downtown Duluth, which required blasting of the rocky terrain to make way for the building's foundations. The addition capitalizes on the natural site and views toward the St. Louis River and Lake Superior. The new addition combines “smart” classrooms, teaching laboratories and open laboratory space for health, nursing, and science programs.

Special features include a hospital nursing simulation center, a surgical technology laboratory, and a simulated clinic with exam rooms. The center was built on a hill behind the main building, with a glass-enclosed walkway connecting to the existing building on the main circulation second level.
