Finance & Commerce announced the Top Projects of 2019 Honorees and among the impressive collection of projects, Shaw-Lundquist Associates was named a winner for two projects.

Arvonne Fraser Library

Libraries

1222 Fourth St. SE, Minneapolis | Owner: Hennipin County Facility Services | Contractor: Shaw-Lundquist Associates | Architect: MacDonald & Mack Architects, Quinn Evans Architects | Engineer: Mattson Macdonald Young Inc., Nelson-Rudie & Associates

The project was a complete renovation of the existing library. Todd Grover with MacDonald & Mack Architects did a great job keeping many of the design attributes that the Ralph Rapson, the original architect, had originally designed the building with. The scope of work included the removal of a below-grade parking structure, waterproofing of the lower level, complete new roof, and an open floor plan concept that included opening up the main level to provide natural lighting to the lower level from the 22 skylights on the roof.

Frogtown Recreation Center

230 Como Avenue, St. Paul | Owner: City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation | Contractor: Shaw-Lundquist Associates | Architect: JLG Architects | Engineer: Palanisami and Associates Inc., Obernel Engineering

The 2-story, 24,500 SF building is ground-up new construction with masonry, concrete, steel, drywall, interior finishes including casework, terrazzo floor, a wood gymnasium flooring and gym equipment. The community center is a place where people in the community of all ages visit, and includes state-of-the-art architectural features including terrazzo floor designed by local artists that illustrate the life of a frog, translucent panels in the gym that appear to “glow” at night, a unique marquee sign on Como Ave., dark glazed brick and metal panel exterior provide a stunning curb appeal and new windows allow bright light into the space.

A panel of independent judges selected from an impressive list of 50 honorees for the Top Project awards. The projects will be featured in the Finance & Commerce newspaper in July 2020 as well as being honored at a July 23rd event (alternate Oct. 15th date) at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. Visit Finance & Commerce for a complete list of the other 2019 winning projects.
